Upon his return to the UK in 2000 he completed the Marsden diploma in cancer course and then took a post as the Transplant Coordinator and Apheresis nurse at The Christie in Manchester 2001.
John became a nurse prescriber in 2003 and with Government initiatives and the need to reduce junior doctor’s hours as part of European Working Time Directive, he went on to complete the MSc in Advanced Practice course, qualifying in 2007.
Following his MSc, he developed a new post of Nurse Clinician in BMT on the Haematology and Transplant Unit at The Christie with a special interest in GvHD and late effects of transplant.
He now holds a dual role as lead for Advanced Practice at the Trust.
John has been the Chair of the EBMT UK Nurses and Allied Professionals group and also Chair of the EBMT scientific committee. He became the President of EBMT Nurses Group in 2017, serving for 5 years. He also served as co-chair of the Equality Diversity and Inclusion committee of EBMT until 2024.
